Fire Prevention week is October 5 to 11, 2008

The Canning Fire department has a Fire Prevention Team which consists of a fire fighters who visit schools, daycare centres, and posts articles in the local paper monthly.

Their main goal is to teach the public how to prevent fires and what to do if one should occur. If your group would like a visit from the fire department's Fire Prevention Team, just call 582-3231 and leave a message we will be in touch with you.

 

 

 

 

In July 2008 the team visited the Appletree Landing Children's Centre in Canning. Teaching the children how important it is to have an escape plan for their homes and to have a family meeting place once safely outside. They also taught the children how important it is to not go back inside a smokey house for toys and pets. The team assured the children that those things can be replaced, but the children can't. The children also had a chance to try on some of the fire fighters bunker gear !!

November 2007 , the Fire Prevention Team visited a women's group in Sheffield Mills.Teaching the ladies how to use fire extinguishers properly and which type to choose for the type of fire.

October 2007 the Fire Prevention Team visited the Glooscap Elementary school in Canning along with Windsor fire department's smoke house. The Fire Prevention Team also held an open house at the fire hall during fire prevention week.
