Chief's Message:

Canning Volunteer Fire Dept. was established in 1891 and over the years the dedicated members of the CFVD have provided fire protection to the Village of Canning and adjacent communities. Our department through a Mutual Aid agreement renders assistance to other neighboring fire departments like Kentville, Wolfville, Port Williams and New Minas. We also have a second station in Scot's Bay manned by members living in Scots Bay.

Over the years the department has developed the required skills through special training of members to provide additional services for the communities. Some of those services are cold water rescue, high angle rope rescue, water rescue and hazardous materials handling.

Another very important service the CVFD provides is Medical First Responders (MFR's). These trained medical first responders provide assistance for those in need until paramedics can arrive on scene and provide assistance and ambulance services. At present over 50 percent of the members of the Canning Volunteer Fire Department are MFR's

The Department trains all members to the NFPA standard Leve1 training as a mandatory requirement for active firefighters. Training is Monday evenings and when required some weekends for specialized training like the MFR and other specialty teams.

We participate in community events and parades and special events. Some of those include food bank drives, graduation, special events like fire works providing fire protection and first aid posts for events requiring those services.

We have created a very successful fund raiser in January called the BIG TRIP where we cook a great diner and provide a full course meal, dessert and live entertainment and lots of prizes. This event is a great success thanks to the great support from the business community of Canning and surrounding areas and the businesses that our members work at.

We respond to approximately 140 alarms per year.

I hope you enjoy our web site if you have any questions or comments please contact myself anytime
